Meet Zach Schaumburg
Partner/Founder
As co-founder and partner of Rail Gauge, Zach is responsible for day-to-day operations of the company. He spends his time deal sourcing and raising capital with oversight of company acquisitions and ground up development while implementing the strategic direction of the company.
Since 2010, he was a principal of Mesa Capital Partners, an Atlanta based multifamily investment and development firm that he co-founded with partners Jeff Tucker and Tom Bell coming out of the last recession. In his Mesa tenure, he raised and deployed $450 million of private capital into the acquisition and development of 57 apartment assets exceeding 15,000 units at a total cost of $1.6 billion. Mesa successfully exited 55 assets with a sale value of $3.7 billion and profit exceeding $1 billion.
Zach has an extensive background in real estate acquisition and development including low, medium, and high-density residential projects having acquired, entitled, planned, and financed multifamily apartments, land development, mixed-use, and single-family residential projects.
Prior to Mesa, Zach served as President for Tucker Development Partners, a land acquisition and real estate development firm that developed apartments, single-family subdivisions, and various other commercial and residential developments.
Graduating from the University of Colorado, Zach earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and marketing. He began his career with Hines Resorts, a subsidiary of the Houston based Hines where he worked on golf and ski resort developments in Aspen, Colorado.
Zach later graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned a Master’s in Real Estate. He is an active member of the Urban Land Institute, National Multi Housing Council, and the Atlanta Apartment Association. Zach is an avid fishermen, skier, golfer, and boater. He lives in Atlanta with his wife and four children.
